Spurgeon, Heir of the Puritans

Couverture
W. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1968 - 184 pages
No biography of the great preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon has been published for over thirty years, and the time is ripe for a new study of his life and his extraordinary influence. This book shows that his preaching, doctrines, and ministry were firmly based upon, and largely derived from, the great seventeenth-century Puritan Divines in whose works his mind was steeped in doctrines of the Holy Scripture and the Reformation. Some new facts and stories concerning the great preacher's ministry and philanthropic works are included in this book, together with a charitable re-appraisal of the famous "Down Grade" controversy which caused such a storm in his later years. - Jacket flap.
