I. Though the Sabbath question is extremely intricate, and embraces a variety of subjects, at first sight, foreign to it, it is hoped that, in the following Essay, an arrange ment has been adopted that secures at once simplicity, perspicuity, and logical sequence. By fixing the attention upon the leading features of the controversy, it will be found, that the historical view of Genesis ii. 1 - 3, the casual notice of the institution in Exodus xvi., and the morality of the fourth commandment, ate the fundamental principles.
