APPENDIX, No. III.

GENERAL PLAN OF THE ASSOCIATION

FOR ENCOURAGING

CATECHETICAL EXAMINATIONS

THROUGHOUT IRELAND.

THE ASSOCIATION Incorporated for Discountenancing Vice, and Promoting the Knowledge and Practice of the Christian Religion, desirous to promote the Public Examination of Children in the Principles of the Christian Religion, throughout Ireland, do hereby notify that they will grant to the best Answerer, in a division of not less than Six Candidates, at every such Examination, held annually, in a Parish Church, Day-School, Boarding-School, or Academy, the following Premiums :

FIRST CLASS. - To each division of not less than Six Candidates, a Bible; or if the successful Candidate have one, any Books on the Association list, at the discretion of the Examiner, not exceeding the value of Fifteen Shillings.

SECOND CLASS. - To each division of not less than Six Candidates, a Bible; or if the successful Candidate have one, any Books selected as above, not exceeding the value of Ten Shillings.

THIRD CLASS. - To each division of not less than Six Candidates, a Bible, Prayer Book, or New Testament;

or if the successful Candidate have all these, any Books selected as above, not exceeding the value of Five Shillings.

FOURTH CLASS. - To each division of not less than Six Candidates, a Duodecimo Bible, Prayer Book, or New Testament.

FIFTH, OR LOWEST CLASS. To each division of not less than Six Candidates, a Prayer Book, or New Testa

ment.

Provided the Examiner at such Examinations be the Minister or Curate of the Parish, or a Clergyman appointed by him, and shall transmit to the Association a Certificate in any of the annexed Forms, according to the Class the Children shall rank in. Should the division exceed the Number above specified, Premiums will be given in the same proportion of One to every Six Children examined.

And in order to encourage continued attendance at these Annual Examinations, the Association will grant Honorary Certificates to such young Persons as, having obtained the Premiums of the First Class, in a former Year, are found at a subsequent Examination, at least equal to the successful Candidates for Premiums in that Class.

And to encourage attendance at Weekly Catechetical Lectures, held by the Clergyman of any Parish, the Association will grant the Premiums of their respective Classes, to such of the unsuccessful Candidates for the above Premiums, in the proportion of One to Six (of the Number that remains, after the successful Candidates have been deducted,) as shall have attended with remarkable diligence such Lectures; provided it be Certified, that they have attended for Six Months of the preceding Year, and have made adequate progress.

The Association beg leave also to remark, that, in
