fear not. But they being troubled and affrighted, thought it was a spirit they saw. And he said to them: Why are you disturbed, and why do such thoughts arise in your minds? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: feel and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me have. And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and his feet. But they not yet believing, and wondering for joy, he said: Have you here any thing to eat? And they set before him a piece of broiled fish, and a honey-comb. And when he had eaten before them, he took the remainder, and gave it to them, and he said to them: This is what I told you, while I was yet among you: that all that is written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms concerning me, must be fulfilled. Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures. And he said unto them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again the third day: and that repentance, and the remission of sins should be preached in his name to all nations. LESSON. Acts iii. 13. 19. I N those days: Peter opening his mouth, said: You men of Israel, and you who fear God, give ear. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our forefathers hath glorified his Son Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied before Pilate, when he judged he ought to be released. But you refused the Holy one, and the righteous one, and desired a murderer to be granted you: and you put to death the author of life, whom God raised from the dead, whereof we are witnesses. And now, brethren, I know you did it thro' ignorance, as did also your Rulers. But God hath fulfilled what he foretold by the mouth of his Prophets, that his Christ should suffer. Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out. GRAD. This is the day the Lord hath made, come let us exult and rejoice thereon. V. Ps. 117. Victimæ Paschali, as above, p. 108. GOSPEL. John xxi. 1. 14. T that time: Jesus shewed himself again to his dis self thus: There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas, called Didymus, and Nathaniel, who was of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter saith to them: I am going to fish. They say to him: we also are going with thee. And going forth, they went into a ship: and that night they caught nothing. And the morning being now come, Jesus stood on the shore; but his disciples knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus therefore said to them: Children, have you any thing to eat? They answered him: No. He saith unto them: Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you will find. They cast it therefore, and now they were not able to drag it for the multitude of fish. Then that disciple, whom Jesus loved, said to Peter: It is the Lord. Simon Peter hearing it was the Lord, girt his garment about him, (for he was naked) and cast himself into the sea. But the other disciples came in the ship, (for they were not far from land, only about two hundred cubits) dragging the net full of fish. As soon as they were come to land they saw a fire of coals, and a fish laid thereon, and bread. Jesus saith to them: bring hither some of the fish you have just now caught. Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty three: and though there were so many, the net was not broken. Jesus saith to them: come and dine. And none of them that were at table durst ask him: Who art thou? Knowing it was the Lord. And Jesus cometh, and taketh the bread, and giveth it to them, and the fish in like manner. This was now the third time Jesus had shewed himself to his disciples after he was risen from the dead. CREDO. OFFERT. Ps. 77. Thro'. LESSON. Acts viii. 26. N those days: The Angel of the Lord spoke to Phi lip, saying: Arise, and go towards the South, to the way that goeth down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert. And he arose, and went. And behold a Man of Ethiopia, an Eunuch of great authority under Candace, Queen of the Ethiopians, and who had charge of all her treasure, had been at Jerusalem to worship; and was returning back, sitting in his chariot, and reading Isaias the Prophet. And the spirit said to Philip; Come near, and go up to that chariot. And Philip running up to it, heard him reading Isaias the Prophet; and he said; Dost thou think thou understandest what thou art reading? Who said; How can I, unless some one expound it to me? And he desired Philip to come up, and sit with him. And the place of Scripture he was reading, was this; He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and, like a lamb without voice before his shearers, he opened not his mouth. In his distress was his judgment taken away. Who shall declare his generation? For his life shall be taken from the earth. And the Eunuch answering Philip, said; of whom, I pray thee, doth the Prophet speak this; of himself or some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from that part of the Scripture, preached to him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water. And the Eunuch said: See, here is water; what hindereth me from being baptized? And Philip said: If thou believest with thy whole heart, thou may'st. And he answering, said; I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand; and they both of them went down into the water, Philip and the Eunuch, and he baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the spirit of the Lord took away Philip, and the Eunuch saw him no more. And he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found in Azotus. And going on, he preached the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea. GRAD. This is the day the Lord hath made, come let us exult, and rejoice thereon. V. The stone, which the builders rejected, is become the chief corner stone: this was done by the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Christ is risen, who created all things, and hath shewn mercy to mankind. The PROSE.Victimæ Paschali, as adove, p. 108. A T that time; Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping. And as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre; and she saw two Angels in white sitting, one at the head, and another at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been laid. They say to her : Woman, why weepest thou? She saith to them: Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. Having said this, she turned back, and saw Jesus standing; but knew not that it was Jesus. Jesus saith to her: Woman, why weepest thou? Whom dost thou seek? She, thinking it was the gardener, saith to him; Master, if thou hast removed him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith to her; Mary. She turning, saith to him: Rabboni, that is to say, Master. Jesus saith to her: touch me not, for I have not as yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren, and tell them: I ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. Mary Magdalen came, and saith to his disciples: I have seen the Lord, and so and so he said to me.
