the Lord of life and glory condescends to accept such offerings is, I think, borne out by the words, 'Whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward' (Matt. x. 42); and, 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me' (Matt. xxv. 40).

"GLEANER AND SOWER" LESSONS OF TRUTH FOR HOME AND SCHOOL.* THE four parts of this work are now complete, and may be had for four stamps. This has been to us a work of great labour and of such expense that if every copy should be sold we should scarcely be re-imbursed. Our aim has not been gain, but the spread of the truth amongst the young. Here is just a year's Sunday teaching for the small sum of fourpence. The following summary of their contents will show what a wide range of subjects they embrace. We wish every reader of the GLEANER were well taught in all the truths they contain. We trust parents and teachers will help forward this desirable object. These books answer for a Catechism, for a register of attention and conduct, for a reading lesson, and direct to suitable hymns to be sung. Our readers may form some idea both of the labour bestowed upon the work, and of its Scriptural character, when we tell them the Scripture references at the foot of the pages to prove all that is asserted amount to between seven and eight hundred. Each lesson concludes with a suitable anecdote or illustration. Oh, may the people

of God be stirred up to use this help to putting sound Scripture doctrine into the understandings of the young, who are growing up when infidelity, Popery, and all sorts of errors are rife!

SUMMARY OF LESSONS OF TRUTH.

In lesson one we're taught to see
There's One who made both you and me;
We must believe Jehovah is

Before we can Jehovah please.

In lesson two is taught that Word
Declared by Jesus Christ the Lord,
That God's a Spirit none can see,
Yet ever near to you and me.

God's Attributes in lesson third
Are gathered from His Holy Word;
We learn from thence right thoughts of God,
Who only saves through Jesu's blood.

In lesson four's that mystery
Of Three in One and One in Three.
Proud reason here is laid aside
Before the Word that must abide.

In lesson five we learn God's Word
Was all inspired of the Lord.
All that we need to know is there,
We ought to read it all with care.

In lesson six and seven we're taught
How God from nothing all things brought.
All beings owe to Him their birth,

Who with His Word made heaven and earth.

We're clearly taught in lesson eight
Man's early, holy, happy state;
In Eden's bowers the holy pair
Did God's rich love and bounty share.

We're taught by lesson nine God's law
Demands obedience without flaw,
And justly curses down to death
All those who spend in sin their breath.
Lesson the tenth doth sadly tell
How man in Eden's garden fell;
How sad, how great, that dreadful sin
That let all woe and sorrow in.

Lesson eleven doth further teach
How far the sin of man doth reach;
It plunged in sin and sad disgrace
Each member of the human race.

Lesson twelve declares to all

Who live in sin, both great and small,
That soon their dying day will come,
And then how sad the sinner's doom.

Lesson thirteen declares the love
That chose to endless bliss above

A myriad host, a glorious throng,
Who'll sing God's love in ceaseless song.

Lesson fourteen doth plainly tell
That God, in all things ordered well,
A Covenant made of richest grace,
With Jesus in the sinner's place.

The fifteenth lesson teaches how
The Lord in ancient times did show
That He had in His love designed
Salvation free for lost mankind.

Lesson sixteen and seventeen each
Show what the types of old did preach;
How Jesus is the Substance true
Of all those shadows bring to view.
Lesson eighteen doth show with care
How God did hear His people's prayer ;
And sent them prophets to foretell

Of Him who saves the Church from hell.

The nineteenth lesson's of that sight
That filled the angels with delight;
'Glory to God and peace on earth
They sang at Jesu's wondrous birth.

The twentieth lesson must be sweet
To those who can Jehovah meet,
Clad in the Saviour's righteousness,
That law-fulfilling, glorious dress.

In lesson twenty-one is shown
How, from the manger to the throne,
Jesus a blest example gives

To every one who by Him lives.

The twenty-second lesson shows
Jesus overwhelmed in woes,
Sin-burdened, groaning on the tree;
It says,
"The Man of Sorrows see!"

In lesson twenty-three we're taught
How Jesu's solemn death is fraught
With truths that honor mercy's name,
And quench Mount Sinai's fearful flame.
In lesson twenty-four we see

The Royal Captive once more free;
A precious Christ, the Churches' Head,
Rising victorious from the dead.

The twenty-fifth doth seek to show
Jesus dragging every foe

Captive towards the heavenly gate,
Ascending there in royal state.

In lesson twenty-six we read

How Christ at God's right hand doth plead
For all His precious blood hath bought,
For all who're by the Spirit taught.

We're taught in lesson twenty-seven
How God the Spirit came from heaven;
And from the Pentecostal hour

The Church bears witness to His power.

In lesson twenty-eight we're shown

How God's own truth should be made known; To every creature in the world

The Gospel flag should be unfurled.

This truth in lesson twenty-nine
Before our eyes is made to shine,

That through the Word the Spirit gives
New life, and then the sinner lives.

In lesson thirty we are taught
The feelings in the sinner wrought,
When forth, like Lazarus, from the tomb,
A fettered captive he doth come.

We're told in lesson thirty-one
How, when the work of God's begun,
The soul made willing's bid to come
To Jesus Christ, a saving Home.
This truth in lesson thirty-two
Is brought before the learner's view,
That he who would with God be just
Must fix on Christ his only Trust.
'Tis this in lesson thirty-three
That we are plainly taught to see,—
To all His saints the Lord doth give
True holiness in which they live.

In lesson thirty-four we learn
Believers' hearts with love do turn
To Christ, as Prophet, Priest, and King,
Whose worthy praise they gladly sing.

In lesson thirty-five's explained
That every soul who life has gained,
All other rules should cast aside,
And take the precepts for his guide.
In lesson thirty-six is taught
That every soul to Jesus brought
Will find that, as he walks amiss,
The Lord a chastening Father is.
