We want that you in early youth
Should know and feel that this is truth-
You have a mind within,

You're not to leave your mind untill❜d,
But get your understanding fill'd
With what may keep from sin.

You'll have to leave this passing earth,
You must partake a heavenly birth,
Or you will sink to hell.

Then cease your carelessness to read,
And try to understand indeed

The truths our pages tell.—Ep.

SAVIOUR.

WHEN Adam fell, the human race
Fell with him into deep disgrace;
E'en the elect among them fell
Low as the very gates of hell.
Guilty and wretched, there they lay ;
They owed a debt they could not pay.
They're lost! yes, lost! And must they lie,
And in that sad condition die?
Oh, no. God did a Saviour find,
A Saviour merciful and kind;
His own beloved Son He gave,
His lost rebellious ones to save.
A Saviour! Jesus is His name,
He all His people will reclaim;
For them He died, and rose as well,
And triumphed over death and hell.
He saves them from the law they broke,
From a deserved but killing stroke;
He saves from hell, he saves from sin,
From foes without, from foes within.
He saves from Satan's craft and power,
He guards them in temptation's hour;
He saves them from their every foe,
He guards them everywhere they go.
Oh, what a Saviour! how complete !
How strong, how loving, how discreet!
He'll ne'er refuse to save one soul
Who does his burden on Him roll.
Dear Reader, is this Saviour yours?
The Bible plainly us assures
There is no other Saviour given,
There is no other way to heaven.

TIBERIAS.

TIBERIAS is a small town situated above the midd le of the western bank of the lake of Gennesaret; it was chiefly built by Herod the Tetrarch, who was in favour with the Emperor Tiberias. The inhabitants derived their support mostly from the navigation of the Sea of Galilee, and from its fisheries. After the destruction of Jerusalem, Tiberias was celebrated during several centuries for its Rabbinical Academy. The picture opposite is a view of the ruins of this once famous city, which commands views of various sites memorable in Scripture. On the west may be seen the city of Mary Magdalene; Capernaum, Chorazin, and Bethsaida once lay on the same coast; on the east was the scene of the great miracle, the feeding of five thousand. while gazing on that lovely inland sea, the sea of Galilee, that that spiritual man of God, McCheyne, wrote the following sweet lines:

THE SEA OF GALILEE.

How pleasant to me is thy deep blue wave,

O Sea of Galilee !

For the glorious One who came to save

Hath often stood by thee.

Fair are the lakes in the land I love,
Where pine and heather grow;
But, thou hast loveliness far above
What Nature can bestow.

It is not that the wild gazelle

Comes down to drink thy tide,

But He that was pierced to save from hell
Oft wandered by thy side.

It is not that the fig-tree grows,

And palms, in thy soft air,

But that Sharon's fair and bleeding Rose
Once spread its fragrance there.

It was
