2. With all LoWLINESS and MEEKNESS, with LONG-SUFFERING, forbearing one another in Love;

3. Endeavouring to keep the Unity of the SPIRIT in the Bond of Peace.

Col. iii. 8. But now you alfo put off all thefe; Anger, Wrath, Malice, Blafphemy, filthy Communication out of your Mouth.

12. Put on therefore (as the Elect of God holy and beloved) Bowels of Mercies, Kindnefs, humblenefs of Mind, MEEKNESS, Long-fuffering;

13. Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any Man have a Quarrel againft any: even as Chrift forgave you, fo alfo do ye.

6. BLESSED (d) are they which do HUNGER and THIRST after RIGHTEOUSNESS: for they fhall be filled.

(d) Deut. viii. 2. And thou fhalt remember all the Way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty Years in the Wilderness,

to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine Heart, whether thou wouldst keep his Commandments, or no.

3. And he humbled thee, and fuffered thee to HUNGER, and fed thee with Manna (which thou knewest not, neither did thy Fathers know) that he might make thee know, that Man doth not LIVE BY Bread only, but by every WORD that proceedeth out of the Mouth of the Lord doth Man LIVE.

Rev. vii. 16. They fhall HUNGER no more, neither THIRST any more, neither fhall the Sun light on them, nor any Heat.

Chap. xxii. 17. And the SPIRIT and the BRIDE fay, Come. And let him that heareth, fay, Come. And let him that is ATHIRST, come: And whofoever will, let him take the WATER of LIFE freely..

7. BLESSED (e) are the MERCIFUL: for they shall obtain MERCY.

(e) Palm xviii. 25. With the MERCIFUL thou wilt fhew thy felf MERCIFUL: with an upright Man thou wilt fhew thy felf up right.

Pf. xli. 1. Bleffed is he that confidereth the Poor; the Lord will deliver him in Time of TROUBLE.

2. The Lord will preferve him, and keep him alive; and he fhall be BLESSED upon the Earth.

Micah vi. 8. He hath fhewed thee, O Man, what is good; And what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love MERCY, and to walk HUMBLY with thy God?

8. BLESSED (f) are the PURE in HEART: for they fhall fee GOD.

(f) Pfalm xviii. 26. With the PURE thou wilt fhew thy felf PURE: and with the froward thou wilt fhew thy felf froward. Pf. xxiv. 3. Who fhall afcend into the Hill of the Lord? and who fhall ftand in his holy Place?

4. He that hath CLEAN HANDS, and a PURE HEART; who hath not lift up his Soul unto VANITY, nor fworn deceitfully. Pf. li. 10. Create in me a CLEAN HEART, O God; and renew

a RIGHT SPIRIT within me.

P. cxix. 1. Bleffed are the UNDEFILED in the WAY, who walk in the LAW of the Lord.

Titus i. 15. Unto the PURE all Things are PURE: but unto them that are defiled, and unbelieving, is nothing PURE; but even their Mind and Confcience is defiled.

Ephef. v. 25. Husbands, love your Wives, even as Chrift also loved the Church, and gave himself for it:

26. That he might SANCTIFY and CLEANSE it with the Washing of Water by the Word.

27. That he might present it to himself a GLORIOUS Church, not having Spot or Wrinkle, or any fuch Thing; but that it fhould be holy and without Blemish.

Titus ii. 13. Looking for that bleffed Hope, and the glorious Appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jefus Chrift:

14. Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all INIQUITY, and PURIFY unto himself a peculiar People, zealous of good Works.

Heb. ix. 11. But Chrift being come an High Priest of good Things to come, by a greater and more perfect Tabernacle, not made with Hands, that is to fay, not of this Building;

12. Neither by the Blood of Goats and Calves, but by his own BLOOD he entred in once into the Holy Place, having obtained eternal Redemption for us.

13. For if the Blood of Bulls, and of Goats, and the Ashes of an Heifer fprinkling the unclean, SANCTIFIETH to the PURIFYING of the Flesh;

14. How much more fhall the BLOOD of Chrift, who through the Eternal SPIRIT offered himself without Spot to God, PURGE your Confcience from DEAD WORKS to ferve the living God?

Chap. x. 21. Having an High Prieft over the House of God: 22. Let us draw near with a TRUE HEART, in full Affurance of Faith, having our Hearts sprinkled from an EVIL CONSCIENCE, and our Bodies washed with pure Water.

James iv. 8. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you: CLEANSE your Hands, ye Sinners, and PURIFY your Hearts, ye double-minded.

1 John iii. 2. Beloved, now are we the Sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know, that when he shall appear, we fhall be like him; for we fhall fee him as he is.

3. And every Man that hath this Hope in him, PURIFIETH himself, even as he is PURE.

9. BLESSED (g) are the PEACE-MAKERS: for they fhall be called the Children of GOD.

(g) Rom. xii. 18. If it be poffible, as much as lieth in you, live PEACEABLY with all Men.

2 Cor. xiii. 11. Be perfect, be of good Comfort, be of one Mind, live in PEACE; and the God of Love and Peace fhall be with you.

1 Theff. v. 13. Be at PEACE among your felves.

1 Tim. ii. 1. I exhort therefore, that firft of all, Supplications, Prayers, Interceffions, and giving of Thanks, be made for all Men: 2. For Kings, and for all that are in Authority; that we may lead a QUIET and PEACEABLE Life in all Godliness and Honesty. Heb. xii. 14. Follow PEACE with all Men, and Holiness, without which no Man fhall fee the Lord.

James iii. 17. But the Wisdom that is from above, is first PURE, then PEACEABLE, gentle, and eafy to be intreated, full of Mercy and good Fruits, without Partiality, and without Hypocrify.

18. And the Fruit of Righteoufness is fown in PEACE of them that MAKE PEACE.

1 Pet. iii. 10. For he that will love Life, and fee good Days, let him refrain his Tongue from Evil, and his Lips that they fpeak no Guile.

11. Let him efchew Evil, and do Good; let him feek PEACE, and ensue it.

10. BLESSED are they which are PERSECUTED for RIGHTEOUSNESS fake: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

11. BLESSED are ye when Men fhall REVILE you, and PERSECUTE you, and fhall fay all manner of Evil againft you falfly for my fake,

12. REJOICE and be exceeding glad: for great is your

Reward in Heaven: for fo PERSECUTED they the PROPHETS which were before you (b).

(b) Pfalm x. 2. The Wicked in his Pride doth PERSECUTE the POOR: Let them be taken in their Devices that they have imagined.

P. xi. 2. For lo, the Wicked bend their Bow, they make ready their Arrow upon the String: that they may privily fhoot at the UPRIGHT in Heart.

Pf. xxxvii. 12. The Wicked PLOTTETH against the Juft, and gnafheth upon him with his Teeth.

14. The Wicked have drawn out the Sword, and have bent their Bow to CAST DOWN the Poor and Needy, and to flay fuch as be of UPRIGHT Conversation.

21. They gather themselves together against the SOUL of the RIGHTEOUS, and condemn the INNOCENT BLOOD.

Pf. cxix. 86. All thy Commandments are faithful: they PERSECUTE me wrongfully; help thou me.

Pf. cxxiii. 3. Have Mercy upon us, O Lord, have Mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with CONTEMPT.

4. Our Soul is exceedingly filled with the SCORNING of those that are at Eafe, and with the CONTEMPT of the Proud.

1 Pet. iii. 14. But and if ye sUFFER for Righteousness fake, happy are ye and be not afraid of their TERROR, neither be troubled; 15. But SANCTIFY the Lord God in your Hearts: and be ready always to give an Answer, to every Man that asketh, you a Reason of the HOPE that is in you, with Meeknefs and Fear:

16. Having a good Confcience; that whereas they speak Evil of you, as of Evil Doers, they may be ashamed that FALSLY ACCUSE your good Converfation in Chrift.

Chap. ii. 19. For this is thank-worthy, if a Man for Conscience towards God endure GRIEF, fuffering wrongfully.

20. For what Glory is it, if when ye be buffetted for your Faults, ye fhall take it patiently? But if when ye do well, and fuffer for it, ye take it patiently; this is acceptable with God.

Chap. iv. 12. Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery TRIAL, which is to try you, as though some strange Thing hapned unto you.

13. But rejoice, inafmuch as ye are PARTAKERS of Chriff's SUFFERINGS that when his Glory fhall be revealed, ye may be glad alfo with exceeding Joy.
