As Special Correspondent of the Morning Post I left England in November last and travelled for eight months through the Cape Colony, the Transvaal, the Orange River Colony, and Rhodesia; my journey concluding with a visit to the Victoria Falls of the Zambesi. The main object of my mission was to describe the political condition of the Cape Colony, and the resettlement of the new colonies after the war, and to obtain on the spot as much information as I could as to the present attitude, sentiments, and aspirations of the Dutch population. I traversed some of the most disaffected parts of the Cape Colony, and then travelled in leisurely fashion, and in zigzag, through the Transvaal and Orange River Colonies, trekking with my Cape cart, or with the waggons of Boer transport riders, over the countryside, visiting remote districts, and living among the Boer farmers.
