Vincent's Explanation of the Shorter Catechism has always been held in high estimation in the Presbyterian Church, for its exact, full and scriptural illustration of that admirable summary of Christian doctrine and practice. Although of somewhat ancient date, it deserves to be revived; and it has been thought worthy by the Presbyterian Board of Publication to take its place by the side of "Fisher's Catechism," "Dr. Green's Lectures on the Shorter Catechism," "Shaw's Exposition of the Confession of Faith," and the "Explanatory Catechism," which are already on their Catalogue. In the very early measures adopted by the old Synod of New York and Philadelphia, before the organization of the General Assembly, for the diffusion of Christian knowledge, the gratuitous circulation of good books was not forgotten; and in the year 1772 we find that "the following books were proposed to be procured and distributed, viz.
