New Hope: Avoiding Lung CancerAnvil Publishers, Inc., 2003 - 214 pages More people die annually of lung cancer in the United States than of breast, prostate and colon cancer combined, notes Noel Griese, author of "New Hope: Avoiding Lung Cancer." Griese's book, written for the 90 million past and present smokers in the U.S., presents sobering facts, including the statistic that smoking shortens the lives of American females by 14.5 years and males by 13.2 years. While lung cancer is the most deadly form of cancer, it is also the most preventable, Griese says. He details lifestyle changes that greatly reduce risk. Prominent among these is to quit smoking. The book offers detailed information about how to do that. The author also details exercise and nutrient regimens that reduce cancer risk. Griese, editor of "Current CancerNews" newsletter, is a past state director of the American Lung Association and American Cancer Society, and has been a state chairman of the Great American Smokeout. His book attracted favorable prepublicity and reviews in a wide variety of media including the Los Angeles Times, CBS MarketWatch, the Dallas Morning News, Women's Cancer Network and Seattle Times. The author is now involved in a national radio and television promotion campaign for the book. |
