31 ¶ Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed,10 which a man took, and sowed in his field: 32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a 'tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. 33¶Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which 10 a corn of Senevey. Wi. be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. e MAT. iii. 12. LUKE, iii. 17: Whose fan in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable. f ISA. ii. 2, 3: And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Mic. iv. 1: In the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills, and people shall flow unto it. LUKE, xiii. 20: And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? a woman took, and hid" in three measures 12 of meal, till the whole was leavened. 34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in 'parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; 'I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation 13 of the world. 36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 38 The field is the "world; the good seed are 11 covered up. I COR. ii. 7: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory. COL. i. 26: Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints. m MAT. xxiv. 14: And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; ว "the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; "the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares 14 are gathered and P burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 14 cockle weeds. Pu. then shall the end come. do. xxviii. 19: Go ye therefore and teach all nations. MARK, xvi. 15, 20: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. And they went forth and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the words following with signs. LUKE, xxiv. 47: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Roм. x. 18: But I say, Have they not heard? Yes, verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. CoL. i. 6: Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth. "GEN. iii. 15: I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. JOHN, viii. 44: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. ACTS, xiii. 10: O full of all subtlety and all mischief, thou [Elimas] child of the devil. 1 JOHN, iii. 8: He that committeth sin is of the devil. JOEL, iii. 13: Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. REV. xiv. 15-19: And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great wine-press of the wrath of God. See ver. 30. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and 'they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, 15 and them which do iniquity; r 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire : 'there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous 'shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. 44 ¶ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto 15 scandals. Rh. Ham, A. V. things that cause offences. Wh. MAT. xviii. 7: Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! 2 PET. ii. 1, 2: But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. I MAT. iii. 12: He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. REV. xix. 20: And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. do. xx. 10: And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. WISD. iii. 7: In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and run to and fro like sparks among the stubble. 1 COR. XV. 41-43, 49: There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: it is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. u. See ver. 9.
