32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.

34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their

coasts.

CHAP. IX.

2 Christ curing one sick of the palsy, 9 calleth Matthew from the receipt of custom, 10 eateth with Publicans and sinners, 14 defendeth his disciples for not fasting, 20 cureth the bloody issue, 23 raiseth from death Jairus's daughter, 27 giveth sight to two blind men, 32 healeth a dumb man possessed of a devil, 36 and hath compassion of the multitude.

3 And, behold, certain of the Scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

4 And Jesus 'knowing their 'knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

PRO. xxi. 3: To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. Hos. vi. 6: I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. MAT. xii. 7: If ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

9 LUKE, XV. 7: Joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons which need no repentance.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. 2 PET. iii. 9: The LORD is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

MARK, ii. 18: And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast; and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? LUKE, v. 33, &c: And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink? do. xviii. 12: I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

MAT. XXV. 1, 10: Then shall the kingdom of heaven be 'likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. JOHN, iii. 29: He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: This my joy therefore is fulfilled. REV. xxi. 2: And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
