THE ORDER FOR THE

Administration of the Lord's Supper,

OR

HOLY COMMUNION.

The Prieft ftanding at the north fide of the table fhall fay the LORD's Prayer, with the Collect following, the people kneeling.

OUR FATHER, Which art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy

kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven.

Give us this

day our daily bread. And forgive us our trefpaffes, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

***Only fuch portions of the Rubric are inferted as are most necessary for the information and direction of the worshipper. There are some parts of the holy office in which no direction as to pofture has been given; because, no doubt, it was

The Collect.

Almighty God, unto Whom all hearts be open, all defires known, and from Whom no fecrets are hid; Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the infpiration of Thy HOLY SPIRIT, that we may perfectly love Thee, and worthily magnify Thy holy Name; through CHRIST Our LORD. Amen.

fuppofed that every one would know and follow the old cuftom of the Church. However, as many are now uncertain when to kneel and when to ftand, it may be useful to point out, that analogy and ancient ufe would lead us to ftand, while the Offertory Sentences and the Exhortation and Invitation are being read (as we are inftructed to do during the reading of the Sentences and Exhortation at the beginning of the Morning and Evening Service); and alfo, while the hymns Holy, boly, boly, and Glory be to GOD, are being faid or fung (for that is the posture in which the praifes of GOD have been celebrated in all ages by His people);— and to kneel during all the other portions of the office for which no direction is expreffly given. See remarks upon these fuggeftions and fome others which follow towards the end of the Notice prefixed to the book.

Then fhall the Prieft, turning to the people, rebearfe diftinctly all the Ten Commandments; and the people, ftill kneeling, fhall, after every Commandment, afk GOD mercy for their tranfgreffion thereof for the time paft, and grace to keep the fame for the time to come, as followeth :

Minifter. GOD fpake thefe words, and faid; I am the LORD thy GOD: Thou fhalt have none other gods but Me,

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.

Minifter. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down to them, nor worship them: for I the LORD thy GoD am a jealous GOD, and visit the fins of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me, and show mercy unto thoufands in them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.

Minifter. Thou shalt not take the Name of the LORD thy GOD in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless, that taketh His Name in vain.

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.

Minifter. Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day. Six days fhalt thou labour, and do all that thou hast to do; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God. In it thou shalt do no manner of work, thou, and thy fon, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, thy cattle, and the ftranger that is within thy gates. For in fix days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and refted the feventh day: wherefore the LORD bleffed the seventh day, and hallowed it.

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.

Minifter. Honour thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long in the land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law. Minifter. Thou shalt do no murder. People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law. Minifter. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law. Minifter. Thou shalt not steal. People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law. Minifter. Thou shalt not bear falfe witness against thy neighbour.

People. LORD, have mercy upon us, and incline our hearts to keep this law.
